Social Gathering App for Students
Posted by Jack Zolla on March 9, 2023 at 1:42 amWho would be interested in joining an app that acts as a hub for planning and hosting social gatherings on campuses? We’re looking for help in both marketing and development.

This sounds really cool to me! Do you guys just do stuff for college campuses, or do you also do high school campuses?
-
Emphasis on college with potential expansion to high school in the future

-
I might be interested, but I would like to hear more about the app first.
-
The same for me. It sounds interesting but I’d like to know more about what your edge is.

I like this idea, and I have some decent experience in web development.

In my opinion, you’ll need a more specific application than that if you want to find traction. Is there a specific type or sublevel of campus life that you could target?
-
Appreciate the feedback. We’ve been planning to focus on general social life, but could definitely run initiatives to emphasize specific activity types
-
I’d at least approach it with a few key areas of marketing/focus then. Maybe you heavily emphasize tailgates, or themed parties, or something like that. The narrower your scope, the more intensely you can attract customers.
-
I think that’s a good idea. As we build out our plan we’ll try to incorporate both aspects.

I think the idea is good, but aren’t there already a lot of competitors to this?
-
Yes. And also what’s stopping someone from just using group chats in Groupme or Instagram?
-
The idea is for this to replace that. It’s easier to connect with new people, and unlike group chats (where plans get lost in an endless string of messages), it’s easier to find what you’re looking for.

Yeah, I am already aware of several startups that in essence do the same thing.
-
Could you guys name a couple? Curious to hear what the perceived competition is.
-
There are some similar startups, but none that really allow general social planning in a convenient manner.
-
My initial thoughts too. I think social apps are great, but I just don’t get what makes this unique.
-
-
Another potential issue with this is that, for it to be valuable, you’ll need a lot of any given school on it. And that will be hard to do (although ambassador programs could help).
-
This is something I’ve spoken on as well. I think the solution includes ambassador programs as you mentioned, as well as coordinated marketing campaigns on social media and through school career development centers.
-
Yes, but I don’t even know how much value social campaigns really add. I think in person is key

To be honest, this sounds too generic. I think in the social space nowadays you need a more specific/unique idea.
