Looking to create carbon-neutral crypto exchange
Posted by Ashley Thompson on January 26, 2022 at 4:53 pmHi all,
I’ve drafted some plans for launching a crypto exchange with a focus on environmental sustainability—specifically, on being carbon neutral. In my opinion, it’s both a worthwhile goal to have and something that can help in the marketing of the exchange, so I think it’s worth pursuing.
Right now I’m just in the concept stage, but I’m hoping to make some headway soon. I’d love to have some help from other people passionate about making this idea happen. Feel free to respond or message me if you’re interested and want to help make this legit.

I’m pretty new to the crypto space, but I know a bit about web development and this sounds like an interesting idea. Let’s DM?
-
I like the idea. My two cents is to make sure there is actually a viable business plan for this. The idea sounds valiant, but can you actually successfully execute it?
-
Definitely. I’m working on an in-depth business plan right now that should cover all the plans and financials in detail. I think it should work.
-
Second this. Make sure it’s feasible before you put too much time & resources into development.
-
This is solid advice. Always make a plan. Not only will it help you determine if it’s doable, but writing your thoughts down can actually help clarify and improve your ideas.
-
Adding my support to this suggestion. Plan it out and make sure the numbers/approaches are actually feasible, especially for a pretty complex idea like this one. It’s a good idea though and I’d love to see it executed.

The problem now isn’t with exchanges, but rather mining crypto itself being very energy intensive, also how are you going to <i style=””>acquire customers? since very few people care about carbon emissions enough to switch exchanges
-
Valid points. The objective of the exchange would be to offset the energy consumption of crypto mining (at least proportionally to the volume traded on the exchange). I’d have to do marketing catered to those somewhat invested in both the crypto and sustainability spaces. I agree it’s a niche market but I think it’s possible.

I really like this idea, Ashley. I think it ties together a lot of trends/technologies to create something unique and full of potential. Best of luck in building it.
-
Agreed. You’d wanna make sure it’s not overly dependent on trends (i.e. it can survive even if certain trends die), but I think you’ve picked solid enough foundations here where you don’t really have to worry about that.

-
Are you sure there’s a big enough demographic for this? Do the two sectors you’re targeting really overlap?
-
I don’t think it’s the largest market, but I do think there’s enough of an audience where she could make something work.
-
Nicholas said it perfectly. I’m not going for the largest piece of the pie, but I’m going for a piece that should be dedicated enough to sustain a decent-sized venture.

Hey Ashley, curious how this turned out after you built it? I very much like the concept but it also seems admittedly difficult to execute on.
-
Would love to hear about this as well. It seems like the market has shifted a lot since you originally posted this, but could also have created a great opportunity in doing so.
-
-
Well this now sounds a lot different in the wake of the FTX crash. If you ended up pursuing this, has that affected you?
-
I’m curious to hear this too actually. Crypto seems a lot more pessimistic now than it was a few months ago.
-
I agree. Crypto already had a lot of skeptics, and has even more now, so I think you’d be hard-pressed to sell something niche at this point in time.
