Welcome Collaborate Business Ideas A website for teens to rate each other’s stock portfolios and provide feedback

  • A website for teens to rate each other’s stock portfolios and provide feedback

I’ve had this idea for a while but not yet gotten around to actually building it. Essentially, it would be a site where you can post what your current or planned stock portfolio is, and then the other members could tell you their thoughts on it and offer advice or suggestions. Obviously it’s pretty niche, but I think there are enough young people wanting to get more into investing that the idea is feasible. Is this something you guys would potentially use if it was made? Any suggestions for it?

I’d for sure use something like this. I’m not a heavy investor but it would be nice to get second opinions on my picks, and I think there’s a lot of other people out there who have a similar attitude.

Much appreciated, I agree I think there’s a big potential market for this.

I second this opinion. Not a hardcore investor but would be cool to have an option like this for when I occasionally want advice or opinions.

Yup, well said. One thing though is that it might not be very sustainable if users like us are only coming back every so often. You’d either need a bunch of users or more ways to keep it engaging and keep people coming back.

Agreed. Although I don’t think it’s the end of the world if people only come back so often; as long as there’s some notion that they’ll return in the future, users will keep you in mind and maybe even recommend you to their friends. Create the prospect of recurring value and you’ve got a long-term customer.

I’ve been thinking more about this idea recently and your advice on it- how social do you think something like this could be, and/or how social would it have to be? I think there’s a very technicality-focused and a very community-focused way to approach this and I’m trying to decide which way would be better.

IMO, an emphasis on community is the way to go. Or at least use that as a starting point, and then you can add more niche/technical features if your user base demands them.

I agree with Jabari. Don’t neglect the tech, but the people component is really what you need. You can always add features as you grow.

I would definitely check this out if you built it. Lmk if you need any advice on developing or marketing it, would love to hop on a call and give you my two cents.

What a coincidence! I had a somewhat similar idea. Your idea is good however not many teens trade, I think even you must be 18. I thought of making a learning platform where investors can share videos of their strategy, share their thoughts, and host classes (this would avoid the countless scams). However, where I run short is that the platform would look too much like tradingview.com (besides the video part).

Just circling back to this now as I haven’t done much to start working on it yet; do you think this could still work? I was thinking I could add things like crypto insight/advice since that sector is so popular right now, along with what I’ve already had planned. I like the idea in general, I just want to make sure that people would actually be coming back and logging onto the site.

Still definitely think it could work, and I think the crypto idea is actually great. Also, looking at what’s happening with Gamestop stock going viral on Reddit, there’s clearly a demand for social trading/advice. As long as you make it sufficiently social and interactive, the issue of getting people to naturally return should be minimal.

I was thinking about that earlier today too- with all the frenzy going on right now, a dedicated place to discuss it all would be great, especially since so many of these retail investors are young people. Appreciate the input.

For sure could work. I’d get focused on creating the core of the site, then you can add more features/sections as you go. Once you get building you’ll be able to make better calls on what is needed and what is just wasting your time.

I think you could make this even more viable by adding functionality outside of just stocks: think crypto, other assets, etc. Stocks on its own has a pretty dedicated community to it, so add on a few more circles and you’ve got a sizeable user base.

Stocks and crypto seem like two great ideas: both dedicated, sizeable followings. I think it might be good to keep it at that, though, at least in the beginning; the larger the focus, the less catered experience I can provide to the users.

Also more niche things like NFTs, shorts, etc. Build niche but dedicated subcommunities and you’re set with this.

Agreed. Would definitely join a community to learn more about NFTs and such. I think you can have an educational aspect just as much as a collaborative one.

How would you build a community around NFTs though? I like the idea but is there anything beyond just the current hype that could create a sustainable ecosystem around it?

Short of having a marketplace yourself, I think it could be pretty easy to have a space where users can share links to ones that interest them or even promote their own creations (if you’re okay with self-promo). And also to just discuss the future and potential of the area.

Would definitely use this as someone who wants to join an entry-level crypto community. I think you’d have a solid potential userbase if you got this built.

Great! Would you be willing to answer a few questions I have about designing it? I’m trying to gather some user feedback to shape how I build it.

Agreed. I’m not a particularly avid investor, but I’d love a community where I could casually learn more.
